Wire, Ward Ave, Moosup
Wire recycling in Moosup, CT
Romex, Rainbow (THHN), Steel BX, copper and aluminum cable, brought to a 35-foot truck scale in Moosup.
Chapter 01
Every kind of wire Winco takes
The yard at 24 Ward Ave takes copper wire, low-grade wire, and heavy-grade wire, including No. 1 and No. 2. It also takes Rainbow (THHN) wire, Romex wire, Steel BX, aluminum BX and aluminum-insulated cables, and RF cables.
Left over from a remodel, pulled out of a job site, or sitting in coils in a garage: if it carries current or signal, bring it by and ask. Winco Scrap Metal & Container has worked from Moosup since 1997, and wire comes through the gate in every condition.

Weighed on the scale, graded by a technician
Wire gets weighed on the 35-foot truck scale, the same one that handles full truckloads of recyclable metal. Trained technicians assess what is in the load and make a fair offer on it.
A contractor with a pickup of cut-offs and a homeowner with one box from the basement go through the same steps. Whether you have 10 pounds or 1,000, the weigh-in is the same, and a Winco customer on the site's own testimonial list called it the easiest first scrap run they could have asked for.
Clearing out a work site? Recycling the wire you don't need tidies the job and helps your bottom line.
Chapter 03
Sorting wire before you load the truck
Sort by type as you go. Romex in one pile, Rainbow (THHN) in another, Steel BX and aluminum BX kept apart from each other, and RF cable on its own. Different cable means different metal inside, and sorting it up front keeps the assessment quick.
Armored cable is where mistakes happen: Steel BX has a steel sheath, aluminum BX has an aluminum one. If you cannot tell which you have, bring a short piece and let the technician sort it out.
Call (860) 230-0552 to ask about a big load before you drive over. The yard is open Monday to Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 2.
David B., on Winco's website: “It couldn't have been an easier or more pleasant experience. Everyone at Winco was very friendly and helpful.”
