Other recyclables

Catalytic converters, batteries and more, taken in Moosup, CT

Everything on the yard's list that isn't a metal grade with its own page, from converters and wheel weights to appliances and glass.

Chapter 01

Nine items on the Ward Ave list

This is the page for what Winco takes beyond the main metal grades: catalytic converters, batteries, wheel weights, electric motors, appliances, plastic, and clear, brown and colored glass. All of it comes to the yard at 24 Ward Ave in Moosup.

As a general rule in scrap, electric motors and appliances are valued for the metal inside them, and glass is sorted by color. That is why the list names clear, brown and colored glass separately.

How a load is weighed and assessed

Trained technicians at Winco weigh and assess each load and make a fair offer. The 35-foot truck scale on site means a full truckload can be weighed where it sits, and the yard says it is fully licensed, bonded, and insured.

If you have never sold to a scrap yard, say so when you arrive. Edgardo M., on Winco's own website, wrote that a staff member explained how to use the scale and sell the metal. Winco also says the recyclables it collects are disposed of or repurposed in an environmentally friendly manner.

Chapter 03

Sort it, then bring it in

Drive in during open hours: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM, closed Sunday. Not sure whether something can be recycled? Call (860) 230-0552 and the staff will tell you before you load the truck.

As a general practice, keep batteries, converters and wheel weights in their own boxes, apart from household plastic and glass, and sort the glass by color. A loose, sorted load is easier to assess than a mixed pile.

Reviewers also mention a yard of used parts out back, with toolboxes, headache racks and hitches among them. If you are dropping off a load, leave a few minutes to look around.

“Very professional and they pay me a good price for my Camry's cathalitic converters that I replaced due to scanner code.”
