Chapter 01
Eight kinds of aluminum we take, named the way the yard names them
Winco takes car wheels and rims, cast aluminum (grill tops, propane regulators and some car parts), extrusion aluminum (extruded window frames and pull parts), aluminum siding, old sheet aluminum with 2% or less foreign material, aluminum radiators, used beverage cans, and Aluminum litho sheets, including 1000 and 3000 series sheets.
Those are the grades on our own list, and they are how a load gets sorted once it reaches the scale. If something you're hauling isn't on it, say so when you call (860) 230-0552 and the staff will tell you where it fits.
The family that runs the yard has been at 24 Ward Ave in Moosup since 1997. One Google reviewer, Brandon Trafka, called the staff very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Weighed on the scale, graded by the person holding the load
Everything is weighed. A 35-foot truck scale sits on site, so a pickup bed of siding and a full truckload of mixed aluminum go over the same equipment. Trained technicians weigh the load, assess it, and make a fair offer before you leave.
Grade is what moves the number. In general trade practice, clean extrusion sells for more than painted or mixed aluminum, and sheet with a lot of steel screws or plastic on it gets sorted down. That's why the yard's line for old sheet aluminum says 2% or less foreign material. One reviewer, Edgardo M., said the staff explained how to use the scale and sell the metal, so a first visit doesn't need any know-how.
Chapter 03
Sort at home, bring it to Ward Avenue
Keep the grades apart in the truck or trailer: rims in one pile, siding in another, cans in bags, radiators by themselves. Mixed loads can still be weighed, but separated aluminum is quicker to grade and makes it clear what you brought.
Pull off steel, plastic, wood and rubber where you can. Foreign material is the one thing the list calls out by percentage, and cutting it back keeps old sheet and siding in the cleaner grade. Not sure about the pile of rims in the shed? Call, describe it, and ask.
Open Monday to Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 2. Sunday the yard is closed.
